What are the different formula engines?

In the THRIVE platform, there are various formula engines but what do they actually mean and when would we need to use a different formula?
The formula engines are:
  • Arithmetic
    Geometric
    Weighted Geometric
    Multicapital
    Seafood Stewardship
    Normalized Multicapital
